Three Korean small and medium-sized manufacturers are joining forces to develop an integrated energy storage system (ESS) solution tailored to the European market through technological cooperation.

Enertech International, a battery manufacturer, announced that it signed a “European ESS Integrated Solution Business Agreement” on the 11th with Intermac, a power control systems specialist, and Kukil Intotech, a fire-resistant materials company, at Kukil Intotech’s headquarters in Ulsan. Under the agreement, the three companies will establish a triangular cooperation framework by combining their core technologies in battery manufacturing, power control, and fire prevention, and jointly pursue opportunities in the European market, which is emerging as a next-generation ESS market.

In Europe, demand for ESS linked to solar and offshore wind power, as well as large-scale MWh-class power generation projects, has been rising rapidly. As a result, the ability to supply ESS solutions with high levels of safety and system reliability has become a key factor determining market competitiveness. The three companies initiated this partnership based on a shared understanding of the need to develop highly reliable ESS solutions through technological integration.

Enertech International, which was spun off from the battery division of the Saehan Group in 2001, specializes in the production of secondary batteries for electric buses, trucks, and hybrid vehicles. Its main products include large-format EV cells, battery packs, lithium-polymer batteries, and electrodes. The company counts major domestic and global firms such as Hyundai Motor Company, Ford, LG Energy Solution, and Komatsu among its clients. Under the agreement, Enertech International will be responsible for the design of batteries for medium- and large-scale ESS, as well as ensuring quality and safety, leveraging more than 25 years of accumulated ESS battery manufacturing expertise.

Intermac will provide its ESS integrated control system solution technology, built on over 20 years of experience in the secondary battery, wind power, and renewable energy sectors. This technology is expected to enhance energy storage and management efficiency while strengthening the stability of power supply.

Kukil Intotech will supply fire-resistant and heat-insulating materials designed to prevent thermal runaway and fires during ESS operation. The company has exported specialized industrial sealing products capable of withstanding extreme high-pressure and high-temperature environments for more than 40 years. Building on this expertise, Kukil Intotech produces localized fireproof and fire-resistant materials, as well as thermal runaway prevention materials for electric vehicle batteries.

Going forward, the three companies plan to jointly develop ESS products optimized for the European market and to strengthen the competitiveness of the “K-ESS” brand through collaborative sales activities and technical standardization.
